Have no doubt: This 5.56×45 ammunition by Winchester will do great by your AR-15 the next time you feel like squeezing off a few shots. But as M855 ammunition it also offers a little something special in the form of its “penetrator” bullet.

Each round in this range pack of 200 has a 62 grain bullet with green paint on its tip. This is the universal indication that the bullet’s tip hides seven grains of steel beneath its gilding metal jacket. Its steel tip is designed to help the M855 bullet more reliably pierce steel plating. Under optimal conditions the M855 bullet also reliably penetrates up to 20” deep in soft tissue, and it has a tendency to break in half during high velocity penetration. This tracks multiple wound channels to more effectively neutralize a threat.

Because its bullet is a little heavier than a regular 55 grain M193 bullet, M855 ammo tends to deliver better accuracy out of a faster twist barrel. (You may incur accuracy issues with a 1:9 or 1:12 twist barrel.) It should also be noted that this ammo is magnetic.
