History of 7.62*39 ammo:
- Originally chambered in the RPD Light Machine Gun and SKS Rifle after its introduction in 1943,
- the 7.62x39mm found long-term success after the development of the AK-47 for the Soviet military.
- 7.62x39mm ammo is comparable to the .30-30 Winchester. But while the .30-30 fires heavier bullets at higher velocities,
- the 7.62×39 is an effective round for taking medium-sized game as far out as 200 yards.
- A major advantage of 7.62x39mm ammo is that it’s available in nearly every corner of the globe, produced by all major manufacturers
- and easy to find as a military surplus item.
- While the AK-47 and SKS rifles are the most common for the 7.62×39, there are several other rifles commercially available for this round.
